What is a Residency ?
Residency at the Department
is a community-first, application based, 'Proud to Pay" program giving working creatives near-unlimited access to professional studio space and gear.
Our goal is to eliminate all barriers between you and your creativity.
Proud to Pay
With a suggested payment of $250 to keep the residency program running, the 'Proud to Pay' model does not make finances a deciding factor in acceptance. We want you to contribute to the community in the ways you're able.
What is Proud to Pay?
Can I
Apply?
This is designed for those who:
-
are active creators
-
value being around other working creatives
-
want space without financial gatekeeping
-
understand shared environments and shared responsibility
-
are open to collaboration, feedback, and participation
This includes filmmakers, photographers, musicians, designers, writers, and multidisciplinary artists.
You don’t need a certain resume, following, or income level but you do need intent, presence, and care for the community.
How it Works
-
6-month residency cycles
-
Application-based selection
-
limited residents per class
-
Pay-what-you-can (suggested $250/month)
-
Shared access with booking guidelines
The residency is supported through partnerships, programming, and paid production allowing access to be based on action not income.
